Pit Orchestra
Pit Orchestra is an invitation-only ensemble that performs for the fall musical alongside the Irondale Theatre Department. Instrumentation varies from year-to-year, but traditionally includes strings, winds, percussion, and piano / synthesizer. All personnel decisions are made by the Director of Bands, and invitations are typically sent out in August. Rehearsals begin in early September and conclude in early November with three evening performances and a matinée performance. The Pit Orchestra is conducted by Dr. CJ Longabaugh.
The Irondale Pit Orchestra has been recognized by the Hennepin Theatre Trust Spotlight Education Program with an "Outstanding" Award for their work and performance in The Little Mermaid in 2025 and Spongebob: The Musical in 2024. This is the highest award a pit orchestra can receive by the Spotlight Education Program.
