About the Concert Program
2024-25 Irondale High School Wind Ensemble

The concert ensembles serve as the heart of the Irondale Band Program. Over 200 students participate in one of four concert ensembles offered at Irondale. 9th Grade is automatically enrolled in Concert Band while 10th-12th Grade enrollment is based on an audition held at the end of the spring term each year. Each concert ensemble meets daily for 50 minutes within a 6-period school day.
The concert bands have garnered state-wide recognition in the past three years, with the Wind Ensemble invited to perform at the 2025 Minnesota Music Educators Association (MMEA) Midwinter Convention in Minneapolis, MN. Since 2021, all ensembles have received straight superior ratings at the Minnesota State High School League Large Group Festival held annually in February. |
Concert Ensembles at Irondale
Wind Ensemble
Wind Ensemble is the most advanced ensemble offered at Irondale High School and includes students from grades 10-12. Placement in this ensemble is determined by audition that takes place at the end of the spring semester of the previous school year. Wind Ensemble meets during 2nd Hour and studies advanced high school and collegiate-level repertoire. This ensemble performs at the Fall Band Concert, the Seniors-to-Seniors Holiday Concert, the SEC Music Festival, the Spring Concert, and the Pops Concert. Additionally, Wind Ensemble will audition for regional, state, and national-level festivals.
Wind Symphony
Wind Symphony is an advanced ensemble offered at Irondale High School and includes students from grades 11-12. Placement in this ensemble is determined by audition that takes place at the end of the spring semester of the previous school year. Wind Symphony meets during 3rd Hour and studies advanced level high school repertoire. This ensemble performs at the Fall Band Concert, the Seniors-to-Seniors Holiday Concert, the West Side Band Festival, the MSHSL State Large Group Festival, the Spring Concert, and the Pops Concert.
Symphonic Band
Symphonic Band is the 10th grade ensemble that studies medium-advanced ensemble repertoire at Irondale High School. Placement in this ensemble is determined by audition that takes place at the end of the spring semester of the previous school year. Symphonic Band meets during 5th Hour and studies medium-advanced level high school repertoire. This ensemble performs at the Fall Band Concert, the MSHSL State Large Group Festival, the Spring Concert, and the Pops Concert.
Concert Band
Concert Band is a 9th grade ensemble offered at Irondale High School. All 9th grade band students are automatically enrolled in this ensemble at the start their high school career. Concert Band meets during 1st Hour and studies medium-level high school repertoire. This ensemble performs at the Fall Band Concert, the 9th Grade Band Festival, the Spring Concert, and the Pops Concert.
